What is cyclelogistics?

Cycle logistics refers to the use of bicycles for the transportation of goods and services. This sustainable mode of logistics aims to reduce congestion, emissions, and reliance on motor vehicles by utilizing bicycles for delivery and distribution. It includes various operations such as last-mile delivery, courier services, and urban freight transport, often leveraging cargo bikes or bike trailers to carry larger loads.
Cycle logistics is becoming increasingly popular in urban areas, especially in cities aiming to promote green transportation and improve air quality. It can offer efficient solutions for businesses looking to reduce their environmental impact while meeting customer demands.

Why cargo bikes?

1. Environmental Sustainability

cargo bikes produce zero emissions, helping to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions compared to motor vehicles.

Delivery problems

The growth of e-commerce has led to a large increase in the number of city delivery vehicles. Thousands of vans with internal combustion engines deliver products ordered offline and online daily, emitting enormous amounts of pollutants into the air. These emissions are the most extensive, especially where the population density is the highest, which directly affects the air quality and health of the people in urban areas.

Statistics

  • With a current growth rate of 15%, the number of delivered packages will be doubled by 2030 making the reduction of emissions impossible without a major change in the way of doing delivery business.
  • Cargo bikes are more efficient in urban areas, delivering up to 10 packages per hour compared to only 6 delivered by van.
  • Besides air pollution and enormous fossil fuel consumption, the delivery process is related to many other problems such as endangering pedestrians, creating noise, occupying public spaces, etc.
